There’s something else the home library does for me: it reveals me to myself. For the longest time I questioned my taste in books, due to a bad habit I’d cultivated of comparing self to others. Couple that faulty outlook with the inability to discover what I wanted to do with my life, and you have the perfect recipe for the unholy trinity known as Self-doubt, Anxiety and Depression.)
It was when I realized that personal taste in reading materials 1) Indicates where one’s heart lies, and 2) That’s it’s no one else’s freaking business, that I finally began the process of valuing my choices and gaining some self-esteem- and the rest of the universe be damned.)
